Artist Statement

Socal native Leticia Lacy has worked on many well known animated shows from the last two decades. Her current fine art painting series combines California vintage vibes with a female perspective on “diving into the unknown.” This series is a metaphor for that moment when a person decides to make a huge life change. In one piece, a woman is diving from the clouds without a life vest. In other works, the diver is looking out onto new horizons and weighing her options. Palm trees, birds and surreal clouds are part of the imagery in this series. With her background in art directing for tv animation, she leans toward figurative pieces that give a sense of story. And when painting on these 2ft round wood surfaces, she uses bright energetic color palettes to set the mood. She feels that a splashy color choice can really make a painting sing.
